This study analyzes tourism in the state of Goiás based on data from the 2024 Continuous National Household
Sample Survey (PNAD Continuous – Tourism), focusing on territorial performance and inequalities in access to
travel. A quantitative approach based on descriptive statistics was combined with an interpretative analysis
grounded in the concepts of economic capital and social mobility. The findings show that only 18.1% of
households in Goiás traveled in 2024, a proportion close to the national average (19.3%), highlighting the
persistence of economic barriers to tourism participation. Despite the low travel propensity among residents, Goiás
ranks as the eighth most visited destination in Brazil and the leading tourism destination in the Central-West
region, concentrating nearly half of the regional tourist flows. However, an imbalance between outbound and
inbound tourism was identified, as residents spend more on trips to other destinations than visitors spend within
the state, indicating tourism expenditure leakage. Travel is predominantly domestic and mainly motivated by visits
to relatives and friends, leisure, and health, with private road transportation and accommodation in relatives' or
friends' homes prevailing. The study concludes that Goiás has significant potential to strengthen domestic tourism,
particularly in nature-based tourism, ecotourism, adventure tourism, cultural tourism, and gastronomy. It
recommends public policies aimed at democratizing access to tourism, encouraging intraregional travel, and
strengthening tourism intelligence to support territorial planning.
